AISHE

The All India Survey on Higher Education — an annual government survey institutions must report data to.

API Integration

The mechanism by which an ERP, LMS or payment gateway exchanges data automatically with other software systems.

Biometric Attendance

Attendance capture using fingerprint, RFID or face-recognition hardware instead of manual registers.

Blended Learning

An instructional approach combining traditional in-person teaching with online course delivery through an LMS.

CBCS (Choice-Based Credit System)

An academic structure that lets students choose from core, elective and skill-based courses, each carrying defined credit weightage.

CO-PO-PSO Mapping

The framework linking Course Outcomes, Programme Outcomes and Programme-Specific Outcomes, central to outcome-based accreditation.

DigiLocker

India's government-backed digital document wallet, increasingly used for verified academic certificates and marksheets.

Digital Campus

An institution where core operations — admissions, academics, fees, communication — run on connected digital systems rather than paper processes.

ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)

A single connected system covering an institution's core operations — admissions, academics, finance, HR and examinations.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell — the internal body every NAAC-accredited institution maintains to drive continuous quality improvement.

LMS (Learning Management System)

A platform for delivering, tracking and assessing online or blended coursework, separate from administrative ERP functions.

NAAC

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council — the body that grades Indian higher-education institutions on quality parameters.

NBA

The National Board of Accreditation — accredits individual technical and professional degree programmes rather than whole institutions.

NEP 2020

India's National Education Policy 2020 — the framework reshaping curriculum structure, credit systems and multidisciplinary education.

OBE (Outcome-Based Education)

An educational model that defines and measures learning in terms of specific outcomes students must demonstrate, rather than hours taught.

SIS vs ERP

A Student Information System manages student records alone; an ERP connects those records to finance, HR and every other institutional function.

Smart Classroom

A classroom equipped with interactive displays and digital content delivery, typically integrated with the institution's LMS.

SSO (Single Sign-On)

A login system that lets users access an ERP, LMS and other connected platforms with a single set of credentials.

SSR (Self-Study Report)

The comprehensive report an institution submits to NAAC, documenting its performance against every accreditation criterion.
